About Us

Our Origin Story

The Good Life Abroad was founded by Andrew Motiwalla in 2023 in San Diego, California. While The Good Life Abroad is a young program, it is part of an larger, existing organization. The Good Life Abroad is simply the latest extension of Andrew’s work in the travel industry.

Over a decade ago, Andrew founded Discover Corps, a company specializing in family travel, including multi-generational travel. Discover Corps has an excellent track record and glowing reviews from past travelers. Andrew applies these same standards of excellence to The Good Life Abroad.  Today, The Good Life Abroad shares the same offices as Discover Corps, and continues to uphold the same operating principles that have delighted customers for years.

After working with thousands of travelers at Discover Corps, Andrew realized that many older travelers sought a way to slow down their travel, live like a local, and embrace a different rhythm of life. It was this insight that led to the creation of The Good Life Abroad.

30 Years of Travel Excellence

About Our Founder

Andrew Motiwalla has had an international career, starting with a stint in the Peace Corps, where he lived abroad for two years in Central America. Throughout his career, he has had multiple experiences living abroad and each time was impactful on his life. Because of this, he has focused most of his career on helping other people have meaningful international experiences.

After the Peace Corps, Andrew served as Senior VP at Cross-Cultural Solutions, an international nonprofit organization that sent Americans around the world to engage in short-term volunteering. He went on to found Global Leadership Adventures, a travel company focused on student travel.  As his own children grew, he sought the desire to pass on his values of global citizenship to them, and created Discover Corps.

Based on his experience with older travelers in Discover Corps, and combined with his own parents’ positive experience living in a 55+ community, Andrew fused together the concepts of travel and community to create The Good Life Abroad.

Our Philosophy

Based on the Pillars of Healthy Aging

Social Connectivity & Relationships

Research shows that social connections foster mental and emotional well-being. That's why community is at the core of The Good Life Abroad. We intentionally include lunches, happy hours, and other opportunities for members to get together and connect. Friendships are the glue that hold together our community.

Mental Stimulation & Adventure

Learning about new topics, or exploring new places can provide stimulation to keep the mind sharp. Every Good Life Community offers lectures from expert university professors on topics such as art, architecture, and history. Additionally, members often opt to study the local language, tour the region, or engage in local volunteering.

Physical Fitness & Activity

Fitness is necessary for quality of life and key for injury prevention. Each Good Life Community offers yoga or aerobics sessions, as well as group excursions that may include hiking. Those seeking more strenuous workouts can join a local gym with the assistance of our local Community Manager.
