A Good Life Abroad experience begins well before settling into your apartment or meeting your community in Europe. It starts with the journey itself, packing up, heading to the airport, and making your way across the Atlantic toward a new place you’ll call home for the next 30 days.

Each Good Life Abroad experience is built around living in a European city for a month at a time. While every city has its own personality, the journey there is usually familiar: an international flight to Europe, followed by travel into the neighborhood where you’ll live, explore, and build daily routines.

Having a sense of how that journey works and knowing what options are available helps everything feel more approachable from the start.

The Journey to Europe

Most members travel from the U.S. to Europe through a major international airport, sometimes with a connection depending on the city. From there, the final leg brings you into the city where you’ll be living for the month.

That last stretch matters. It’s the moment when travel ends and living abroad begins.

Some members enjoy planning every detail of their flights and arrival on their own. Others prefer help coordinating flights and ground transportation, especially when traveling internationally with luggage or specific arrival timing in mind.

Both approaches are common. That’s why The Good Life Abroad gives you the flexibility to either book your own travel or work with our full-service travel agency partner, Wings.

Where Travel Planning Fits Into the Experience

The Good Life Abroad focuses on the experience of living abroad — comfortable housing, community, local programming, and support once you arrive. Flights and airport transportation are intentionally kept separate from that core offering.

Because The Good Life Abroad programs are 30 days in length (unless booked consecutively in advance), some members choose to arrive a bit early or stay longer afterward. In those cases, Wings can also help find nearby accommodations outside of the program dates.

This approach allows The Good Life Abroad to stay focused on creating a great living experience, while travel logistics are handled by specialists for those who want that added support.

An Option for Travel Support: Wings

Wings Global Travel is a full-service travel agency that books international flights and coordinates ground transportation, including airport transfers, across Europe.

For members who choose to work with them, Wings helps manage the logistics of getting from home to Europe and onward to your Good Life Abroad city. If you plan to arrive early or stay beyond the program dates, they can also assist with finding nearby accommodations.

Their role is focused entirely on travel — flights, transfers, and related arrangements — and they provide personalized support throughout the process.

Arriving Ready to Settle In

Arrival day sets the tone for the weeks ahead. After a long flight, it’s comforting to know exactly how you’ll get from the airport to your apartment.

Members who work with Wings have flights and transfers coordinated in advance, allowing them to arrive and settle in without needing to navigate transportation systems right away. Others arrive independently and feel comfortable doing so.

The goal is the same either way: arriving calmly and ready to begin living abroad.

From Arrival to Everyday Life Abroad

Once you’ve arrived and dropped your bags, the focus quickly shifts to daily life — meeting neighbors, getting to know your city, and finding a rhythm that feels natural.

When travel is handled smoothly, it fades into the background, making room for the experience itself. That’s exactly how The Good Life Abroad is designed to feel.

What if I have to cancel my flight?

We understand that life happens! In the case that something happens, we encourage purchasing refundable tickets and/or purchasing Voluntary Insurance. This will ensure you are protected should something happen.

Information on the Voluntary Plan, or the 'Cancel for Any Reason' insurance we offer with our partners, Trawick, can be found by going to the Trawick Portal.

Additional insurance must be purchased before final payments are made. We highly recommend purchasing travel insurance (of your choosing), as the included base plan only provides coverage for the location and duration of your program
